Overview
IKEA needed a new global careers experience to help candidates and existing employees discover opportunities across the organisation. Beyond listing vacancies, the platform needed to communicate what working at IKEA means, connect the brand's purpose with career exploration, and deliver an intuitive global job-search tool across countries, languages and devices.
My role
I was the sole designer responsible for the end-to-end experience. I led the moodboards, visual direction, UX wireframes, responsive wireframes, page designs and functionality guidance, working within IKEA's Skapa design system. I collaborated closely with Digital Project Managers, developers and QA throughout delivery, supporting implementation, clarifying responsive behaviour and challenging technical constraints where they affected the quality of the candidate experience.
Establishing the direction
I explored how the platform could feel human, optimistic and unmistakably IKEA without resembling an e-commerce experience. Three connected ideas were investigated: clear modular interface systems, people-led visual storytelling, and generous layouts that balanced structure with warmth. The selected direction used confident scale, bold people-focused photography and generous white space. This let IKEA's personality and values remain visible while keeping job search and career exploration straightforward.
