Overview

A&O Shearman needed a new global careers website and centralised recruitment experience following the merger that created the firm. The platform needed to replace a fragmented regional experience, strengthen employer-brand perception and engage graduates and early-talent audiences. The new experience also needed to bring "Belong. Excel." to life, communicate the scale of the merged firm and establish a flexible global framework for candidate engagement, CRM nurturing and data-led recruitment.

My role

I led the end-to-end UI design process, from early visual exploration through responsive interface design and delivery. My work included developing alternative visual approaches, translating the post-merger identity for digital, creating reusable components and CMS modules, and leading the design-system migration from Figma to Sketch. I worked closely with Digital Project Managers and engineers, producing detailed specifications and exportable assets to maintain design quality through implementation.

Translating the post-merger identity

The new identity needed to unify two established international organisations while remaining sensitive to different regional audiences and expectations. I explored several visual approaches to determine how the identity could operate across global recruitment content, early-career journeys, regional pages and responsive layouts. The selected approach balanced the firm's scale and authority with a more human candidate experience. It created a consistent digital expression through typography, colour, imagery, layout, interface elements and reusable content sections.
